June 18, 2023: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has awarded the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) a 10-year contract to operate and maintain its underground Line-3, after the latter emerged as the lowest bidder in the tendering process recently. A meeting in this regard was held on June 16 at the MMRCL headquarters in Mumbai.
The DMRC has more than 20 years of operating metro services in the national capital, covering around 400-kilometre network.
“The MMRCL is happy to be associated with the DMRC, one of the leading metro operating companies in the country, for operation and maintenance of Mumbai’s first underground metro line,” the company said in a statement.
The DMRC will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the 33.5-km long Mumbai Metro Line-3 with 27 stations. The work will include management of the operation control centre, depot control centre, stations, running trains, maintenance of trains and all metro systems infrastructure and ensuring the safety of passengers.
Mumbai Metro Line-3 is currently under-construction under the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA). It is expected to be operationalised in parts from the end of 2023.
