The e-Shram portal was created with the objective creating a central database for all unorganised workers, including construction workers, migration workers, street vendors, etc. The portal was launched by the ministry of labour and employment in August 2021. Through this portal, the government aims to to create awareness and ensure the effective implementation of various social security services to these workers. It will also ensure saturation of the schemes through identification of left-out potential beneficiaries. More than 30 crore unorganised workers were registered on the e-Shram portal, the ministry of labour and employment said on September 2, 2024. Registration on the portal can be done online either by yourself or with the help of government-appointed entities.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget 2024-25, said that the government will facilitate the provision of a wide array of services to labour, including those for employment and skilling. - Visit the official https://eshram.gov.in/ portal.
- Click on ‘update’ option below the Register option on the home page.
- Click on ‘Update profile using Aadhaar’ under Already registered
- Enter the mobile number linked to Aadhaar card. Enter the captcha and click on Send OTP.
- A new page will be opened on screen.
