November 20, 2023: Union road and transport minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the ministry soon will introduce an electric cable highway under the central government’s plan. The highway will provide electric energy to vehicles and allow them to cover the Delhi-Jaipur distance in just two hours. The union minister said that the new project will not only save travel time but reduce the fuel cost and the journey from Delhi to Meerut would be completed in 45 minutes, as stated in media reports.
What is an electric cable highway?
Electric Cable highways are roads designed to be energy-efficient by supplying electric energy to moving vehicles using overhead power lines. The upcoming electric cable highway project will benefit electric vehicle users as it would provide electric energy to the battery while running on the e-highways. It will increase the range and reduce the range anxiety.
Delhi-Jaipur new expressway
Meanwhile, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is building the Delhi-Jaipur Super Expressway (also known as the NH-352B) which will connect Gurgaon (Haryana) with Chandwaji (Rajasthan). The six-lane highway project is being developed at a cost of Rs 6,530 crore. The route will pass through seven districts in Haryana and Rajasthan, including Gurgaon, Rewari, Jajjhar, Mahendragarh, Alwar, Jaipur and Silkar.
