June 2, 2023: Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Durga Shankar Mishra on June 1 told the district magistrates to ensure 100% disposal of applications to saturate all eligible beneficiaries with the PM Kisan scheme. He also directed the officials to take strict action against the lax staff.
The Uttar Pradesh government is running a two-week drive to help farmers comply with pre-requisites to receive the PM Kisan subsidy ahead of the release of the 14th instalment. The 14th instalment of the PM-Kisan was due to be released next month, UP agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi said on May 24, 2024.
During the drive, which will continue till June 10, camps are being organised in 5,000 villages daily with the staff of the agriculture, panchayat and revenue departments, besides representatives of banks, post offices and common service centres. A total 32,670 of the targeted 67,070 camps have already been held so far.
“The objective is to verify the beneficiaries’ land records, complete their e-KYC and seeding of their bank accounts during the drive so that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of the benefit of the scheme for lack of incomplete details,” the minister said.
The PM Kisan scheme was launched by the Centre on February 24, 2019, to supplement financial needs of land holding farmers. Under the scheme, the government offers financial benefits of Rs 6,000 per year in three equal instalments every four months in the bank accounts of farmers’ families across the country through the direct benefits transfer (DBT) mode. The scheme was initially meant for small and marginal farmers with landholding of up to 2 hectare, but its scope was extended to cover all landholding farmers with effect from June 1, 2019.
