Gaming room design ideas for your home

If you are a gamer, you should definitely check out these gaming room design ideas.

In today’s day and age, where teenagers are so engrossed in gaming that it has become a part of their lives, people often have a room they game in. Namely, the gaming room.

There are tons of gimmicky additions and accessories that have all sorts of bells and whistles, which absolutely add to the essence of a gaming room. Any normal room can be decorated with furniture, but a gaming room is totally dependent on its accessories and decorations.

Gaming room design: Why is it necessary?

There is a reason gaming rooms are called things like a man-cave, paradise, etc., because, in a gaming room, gaming is not the only thing that happens. People play, talk, dance, sit for hours on end, and do so much more to spend their recreational time.

A gaming room becomes the place people come to escape their ordinary lives and indulge in otherworldly experiences. Seems far-fetched if you’re not a gamer, but if you are, you know what we’re talking about.

The main attractions of a gaming room would include the main PC, a smaller entertainment station for watching movies and playing console games on, and a smaller, less demanding side piece such as an arcade station or a physical game platform like a pool table or foosball.

Before getting started with your gaming room, we suggest you consider the following factors:

  • Space: When designing a gaming room, space is a crucial aspect. The room will be saturated with a ton of things, and you need to keep it well-ventilated as well. Take a room with an ample amount of space and if possible, choose one that is evenly shaped. Rectangular rooms work best.

Franchises like Halo, Far cry, Borderlands, Fallout, Star Wars, Tron, etc., have a huge fan following. And these fans are pretty serious about their merch too.

Scour the internet for accessories like stickers, LED displays, neon signs, keyboards, keycaps, wallpapers, books, Manorama, clothes, covers, figurines, stationery, lamps, coffee mugs, rucksacks, chargers etc. Whatever it may be, the gaming industry is full of accessories pertinent to each and every single popular game franchise out there, and we promise you, you will never ever run out of options to choose from.

Lighting

A gaming room is enjoyed best with ambient lighting. Your gaming pc will emit enough light as it is. Lighting plays a crucial role in not only the appearance but also the way a gaming room resonates with the people inside it. Do your research and use only the best-rated lighting appliances and accessories. Gaming spaces are defined by their eye-catching neon colours, which are emitted through a diffuser. A diffuser ensures the lighting doesn’t sting in the eyes and looks more pleasant.

Accessories like neon signs, light strips and smart bulbs should be incorporated into your room setup. A good idea would be to attach light strips in corners and through the edges of the room.

Other than that, there are also tons of innovative products in the lighting space, like touch-sensitive smart lights, sound-reactive lighting, black lights, etc., that can surely enhance the look of your gaming room and complement your gaming setup. There are also smart light options which can be coordinated with the colour of the game you are playing for an ultra-immersive experience.

You can also add customisations such as the textured paper on top of led strips, putting your led strips in a way that they spell out your favourite catchphrase, led strips on the ceiling fan, etc. basically, the possibilities are endless, so go crazy.

Furniture

Gaming of any sort gets you engrossed in the activity for hours. It is addictive. But just like any recreational activity, including long exposures to bright lights, people need top-notch comfort too. Be sure to go all in on your furniture. A sofa, lounge chair and a gaming chair are a must. Moreover, for a satisfactory experience, incorporate clever placement for all your main attractions such that there is plenty of enjoyable room for each without any hassle.

For a sofa, pick one that can be spacious enough for 3-4 people. Pick a set of two very comfortable reclining lounge chairs, and pick a gaming chair that gives plenty of lumbar support and head support. Have a mini fridge and a small cabinet to store snacks for all your unpredictable cravings. You can have a separate cabinet to store all your fandom merchandise in. Lastly, put the most thought into your gaming desk, which obviously will be used the most.

Gaming desk

Your gaming desk will be the most integral part of your gaming room but can be pretty effortless to design as well. Go with a simple, angular gaming desk, or any desk with plenty of surface area and storage space, for that matter.

White works best for a gaming desk but you and go with a colour of your choice. Take into account factors like cable management, the number and size of your monitors, the size of your PC, your desk decorations and necessary items, etc.

A good common ground would be to go for two monitors of your choice, and you can also get custom-made braided cable for your keyboard that matches the theme of your gaming room. A headphone stand is also a must. It can come with RGB lighting, or you can choose a plain headphone stand too.

Get organising accessories like cable ties and rubber grommets, which can help make the desk look clean. For monitors, you can get height-adjustable monitor stands that can help you set them at various angles and heights. Decorate your gaming desk with holographic stickers, miniatures, and other fandom merch from your favourite franchise.

Entertainment unit

Whilst your gaming desk may be just yours, the entertainment unit can consist of various things like a TV, a console, maybe a VR headset, or anything that can be used with two or more persons to have fun.

A small table can be used to store your console, VR headset, and games, and decorate that too with lights, stickers and whatnot. A wall-mounted tv would look the best right above the console table.

Incorporate a not-so-big surround sound system with a collection of 3 or five speakers set around the room. Place the sofa right in front of it and the lounge chairs on either side of the sofa, and voila! Hours of entertainment for your friends and family. If you have money to splurge, you can also buy a small vending machine to add a touch of pop culture-ism to your room.

The whole room

As for the room and its extensions, there’s not much to work with except for the walls and the floor. Lay down a nice carpet with a picture of your favourite action figure and apply a layer of soundproofing material to the walls.

After all, we want to keep the party to ourselves, right? Add a small arcade machine in the corner for some retro-style action. You can go Pac-man, Tekken, or a little less mainstream with games like Tron or space invaders.

If you are a huge miniature geek, we bet you have a ton of them. Whether they be Pokémon, Beyblades, Legos or your favourite Minecraft figurines, we’re sure you have an exorbitant amount.

Do yourself a favour and set up a small glass showcase that can enclose a single figurine and add a wooden base to it. Put the figurine inside and attach it to your wall. Do this with every single figurine, and there you have it, an entire sophisticated figurine collection showcased in the most baffling way possible.

On a Budget?

While most of us are avid gamers, people who have a tighter wallet cannot really splurge as some of the fanatics might be able to do. Don’t let the fact that you have lesser to splurge deter you, as there are products that can truly bring out the gaming factor out of your gaming room within your budget too. Each of the aforementioned products have at least some version of them that are budget friendly and have the same structural rigidity too. Brands like Logitech, Razer, sony, etc. make some of the best gaming products and merchandise in all price categories.

Moreover, you can add things like posters, cover cheap LED light strips with translucent tape, and construct a makeshift IKEA gaming table, along with a ton of other innovative ideas you can incorporate in your gaming room design, for lesser than a dime!
