How to select the idol for Ganpati Puja 2024?

There are many points to note which choosing Ganpati idol for the Ganpati Bappa 2o24. One of the most important is the direction of the trunk. While the trunk of the god can be on both sides, one is recommended to take the Ganesh statue that has the trunk on the left side. This is considered  highly auspicious as per Vastu.   • As part of Ganpati decoration ideas at home, always keep a wooden plank at the centre which will give an elevation to the Ganpati idol.
  • Place the Ganpati idol in the north-east direction of the house.
  • Don’t place the Ganpati idol under any staircase of in the South direction of the house.
  • As per Vastu, flower decoration used as part of Ganpati decoration will bring in positive vibes.

Ganpati Bappa Puja 2024: Things to offer

  • Durva grass: 21 blades of the Durva grass are offered to lord Ganesha.
  • Red hibiscus flower: This is Ganpati’s most favourite flower.
  • Tulsi leaves: Tulsi leaves are very auspicious and used during Ganesh Puja.
  • Bel Patra leaves: Bel Patra leaves are always used in the Ganesh Puja similar to the way they are used in Ganesha’s father Shiva’s Puja.
  • Banana: They are considered to be Ganpati’s favourite fruit and so they are always a part of Ganpati Puja.

Ganpati Bappa Puja 2024: Visarjan

After the Ganesh puja, people keep the Ganesh idol for one and half, three, five or ten days and then bid farewell to Ganpati Bappa by immersing the idol in water. The 10th day of the Ganesh festival is known as Anant Chaturdashi. This year Anant Chaturdashi falls on September 17, 2024.  

Before the immersion, a Puja is done and then people carry Ganpati Bappa idol to the water body with the chant of ‘Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya’ meaning ‘next year please come soon’. The Ganpati idol is then respectfully immersed in water.

As part of the farewell, food is packed and sent with Lord Ganesh in his journey back home.  This is packed in a red cloth where some rice grains and cereals are placed.

  • Choose clay Ganesha idol instead of one going for Plaster of Paris.
  • It’s a good idea to opt for community immersions so that there is less pollution.
  • Use artificial ponds for immersion.
  • If the Ganpati idol is small, you can do the immersion in your house in a small bucket and then pour the water in your balcony garden or building garden.
  • Use eco-friendly decorations so that they can be disposed off easily without harming the environment.
