Ghaziabad Development Authority or the GDA, has created the Ghaziabad Master Plan 2031. This body is formed under the Urban Planning and Development Act 1973, and the functions of this authority are as follows:

- GDA carries out construction management for housing and development.
- They take care of the physical and social infrastructure development.
- They prepare the master plan for the urban development of the city.
- They ensure development, con,trol and compliance with the master plan.
What is Ghaziabad Master Plan 2031?
GDA approved the Ghaziabad Master Plan 2031 in April 2022 for Modinagar and Loni. The authority also approved the Public Private Partnership (PPP) for ropeway projects in the city. The board meeting was led by Surendra Singh, the divisional commissioner and chairperson of the authority. Ghaziabad Master Plan 2031 is GIS-based or Geographic Information System-based. It has proposed an additional 95 hectares of housing development plans for three years. Ghaziabad has 522 square kilometres of land and each region has different land usage.
Ghaziabad Master Plan 2031 includes the following:
- Two SDAs (Special Development Areas)
- Seven influence zones along the RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) project corridor.
Urban development
Within the framework of Special Development Areas, the GDA envisions the establishment of hubs dedicated to structured commercial, residential, and industrial growth. The proposal outlines these SDAs’ transformation into townships near the RRTS project.
Cable car initiative
The GDA is conducting an in-depth analysis of route feasibility for upcoming ropeway projects. The specific focus is on thoroughly examining the Mohan Nagar to Vaishali ropeway project, with considerations for its potential integration with the Metro system. According to Singh, linking this route to the Metro will provide commuters convenient access to Delhi. The committee overseeing this initiative will comprise members from the Municipal Corporation, traffic police, GDA, district administration, and other relevant departments.
