Govt sanctions over Rs 718 cr for widening of NH-59 in Odisha

The project covers a total distance of 26.96 kilometre.

February 27, 2024: The government has allocated over Rs 718 crore for widening and strengthening of a 26.96-kilomter stretch of the National Highway-59. This stretch lies in Kandhamal and Ganjam districts of Odisha.

In a post on microblogging site X today, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said the widening and strengthening of the Daringbadi Ghat section on the highway has been approved under the Annual Plan 2023-24.

Gadkari said the Daringbadi Ghat segment currently experiences challenges due to narrow carriageway and suboptimal geometrics, causing long-route vehicles from western Odisha to bypass the National Highway-59.

As a prominent tourist destination, especially during winter, enhancing this stretch will elevate highway standards, bolster safety, and ensure all weather-connectivity along National Highway-59, the minister said.
