Govt targets over 22 lakh Indiramma housing units in the next 5 years

More than 4.16 lakh houses will be constructed in the first phase.

July 3, 2024: The Telangana government is intensifying its efforts under the Indiramma Housing scheme to provide housing for the poor. Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that the upcoming budget will prioritise funding for this initiative. This announcement was made during a review meeting at the Secretariat with Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Implementation of the scheme was previously delayed due to the Lok Sabha election Code of Conduct, but preparations are now underway to launch the scheme post-elections. The government aims to build 22.5 lakh Indiramma houses over the next five years, starting with 4,16,500 houses in the first phase. In this initial phase, 3,500 houses will be built per constituency, along with 33,500 houses under the Reserve Quota.

Officials have been instructed to gather data on double-bedroom houses constructed over the past ten years by the previous government, as well as those currently under construction. The Deputy CM has also directed housing department officials to visit other states, study the construction of Indiramma houses, and report their findings to the government promptly.
