March 11, 2024: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, on March 7, approved the formation of the Dwarka-Okha Urban Development Authority to facilitate tourism and comprehensively improve infrastructure in the area, according to media reports.
The Dwarka-Okha Urban Development Authority will entail an area of 10,721 hectare and will include municipalities of Okha and Dwarka, surrounding places such as Arambhada, Surajkaradi and Beyt Dwarka, and parts of Shivrajpur and Varwala gram panchayats, as per an official release by the state government.
The authority, which will also develop Beyt Dwarka and Shivrajpur beach area, has been formed to accelerate and supervise infrastructure improvements, guaranteeing delivery of vital civic services and efficient management throughout the region, the release mentioned.
District collector Devbhumi Dwarka has been appointed to lead the authority. The authority will work towards comprehensive development plans, which will focus on basic infrastructure such as roads, streetlights and drainage and prioritise the preservation of cultural heritage and environmental sustainability.
Through the Dwarka-Okha Urban Development Authority, the Urban Development department of the State government will come up with a development scheme, development plan under Gujarat Nagar Rachna & Shaheri Vikas Adhiniyam – 1976.
Prime minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the Sudarshan Setu connecting Okha with Beyt Dwarka.
