July 19, 2024: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved an allocation of Rs 1,470 crore to enhance and upgrade road infrastructure in the state’s industrial and quarry areas. This initiative aims to improve the road network, ensuring smoother traffic flow and better connectivity for villages, towns and cities connected by these routes.
The project will modernise 65 roads spanning 688 kilometre (km), connecting 65 key industrial and quarry areas. It includes expanding 83 km of roads to four lanes and widening 173 km to 10 metre (m). Additionally, 432 km of roads will be significantly strengthened and upgraded, with improvements to bridges and cross-drainage structures. Detailed project reports will be prepared, and flyovers will be constructed where necessary. The plan also highlights the importance of enhancing rural roads that connect quarry areas and industries, ensuring they are sufficiently strengthened and widened to support industrial activities.
Over the past two years, Chief Minister Patel has increased financial allocations for the road sector by more than 80%. He has adopted a novel approach by tailoring road development to the specific needs of industrial areas in collaboration with the Industries and Mines Department. The Chief Minister has instructed the Road and Building Department to align road development with a comprehensive strategy covering the North, Central, South, Kutch, and Saurashtra regions. This focus on industrial road infrastructure supports the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ visions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
