Haryana has a well-developed infrastructure with a wide network of roads and robust interstate connectivity. Every state of India is allowed to levy road tax under the Motor Vehicle Act 1988. Haryana vehicle tax is levied under the Haryana Motor Vehicle Taxation Act 2016. Under this Act, every person residing in Haryana must pay tax to use their old and new cars. Moreover, with this tax money, Haryana maintains the quality and provides road safety to drivers and pedestrians on the road. Haryana Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1936

According to the 1936 Haryana Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, only those vehicles that have been completely or partially exempted by the state government may be driven. Unless the owner has paid a tax at the applicable rate specified in the First Schedule to the Act as described, the vehicles cannot be operated in the Haryana State. The Act also allows for the imposition of fines for violations of its rules.

 

Timeframe for tax payment

According to the provisions of the Act, the owner of a motor vehicle would be required to pay the tax in advance on or before the 15th of April each year. The owner may alternatively choose to pay the tax in 4 equal monthly instalments due on or before the 15th of April, July, October, and January.

 

How is the Haryana Road Tax calculated?

Haryana road tax is calculated based on the vehicle type and age. Moreover, whether the vehicle is bought for professional or personal reasons, the origin, weight, size, and engine capacity play an important role in road tax calculation. At times the tax is levied as a percentage of the total vehicle cost, or a fixed amount is levied for a certain class of vehicle. Lastly, Haryana Road Tax is a one-time expense. Haryana Road Tax for two-wheeler vehicles

Weight or Price Road tax
The total weight of vehicles is less than 90.37 kg Rs 150 
The vehicle price is equivalent to Rs 20,000 2% of the total vehicle price
Vehicle price is above 20,000 and equivalent to Rs 60,000  4% of the total vehicle price
Vehicle price is above Rs 60,000 and equivalent to Rs. 2 lakhs 6% of the total vehicle price
Vehicle price is above Rs 2 lakhs 8% of the total vehicle price

 

Haryana Road Tax for Vehicles registered outside Haryana

Vehicle Age Road Tax
Vehicle aged 1 year 80% of the total vehicle price
Vehicle age is between 1 and 3 years 70% of the total vehicle price
Vehicle age is above 3 years 50% of the total vehicle price

 

Haryana Road Tax for 4-wheeler vehicles

Vehicle Price Road Tax
The vehicle rate is equivalent to Rs 6 lakhs 3% of the total vehicle price
Vehicle rate is between 6 lakhs and 10 lakhs 6% of the total vehicle price
Vehicle rate is between 10 lakhs and 20 lakhs 8% of the total vehicle price
Vehicle rate is above 20 lakhs 9% of the total vehicle price

*Rates are applicable only for private non-transport vehicles.

Paying Haryana Road Tax

You can visit your nearest RTO (Regional Transport Office) to fill out and submit the form. You can collect and deposit this form in that office itself. Moreover, for verification purposes, you need to produce original vehicle documents like vehicle papers, identity proof, etc. Although the process is not time-consuming, it is compulsory for vehicle purchasing. 

Alternatively, you can choose to pay your road tax online through the government website (Transport Department, Haryana website). You will have no problem paying your taxes due to minimal formalities.

By going to the following website, https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/vahanservice/vahan/ui/statevalidation/homepage.xhtml, you may quickly pay your Haryana state road tax online. You can choose your preferred state and enter the information. Never overlook getting your receipt.

Here are the steps to pay Haryana Road Tax:

Step 1: Open the parivahan website.

Step2: Choose your state and RTO in step two.

Step 3: Select Login.

Step 4: Click on “Pay Your Taxes”

Step 5: Complete the information and enter the registration cost for your car.

Step 6: A payment gateway will be presented to you.
