How can a nominee submit claim on death of an EPFO member?

A nominee must submit Form 20 with details of the EPF member.

In case of the death of an EPFO member, his nominees or family members have the right to file claims to withdraw the funds from his EPF account, Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) and Employees’ Deposit-Linked Insurance Scheme (EDLI).

The nominee is eligible to receive monthly pension if the late EPS member was being in service at the time of his death and at least one month’s contribution has been made in the EPS account. The nominee can withdraw only a lump-sum benefit from the EPS account in case the late member had not rendered pensionable service for at least 10 years.

How can a nominee file an online withdrawal claim?

  • Get and fill out Form 20.
  • Approach the employer where the late EPF member was last employed.
  • Submit the form with the employer.
  • You will receive an SMS from the EPFO about your claim.
  • You will receive the claim if all the details in the form match up.
  • You can also check the status of claims through the official portal.
