Jammu and Kashmir Land Records Information System

The Jammu and Kashmir state government has introduced the Land Records Information System (LRIS), an online portal designed to digitise land records. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and accountability by providing residents of Jammu and Kashmir with easy access to land records information. The primary goal of the LRIS is to ensure that land records are available to the public in a clear and accessible manner.

Importance of J&K land records

In Jammu and Kashmir’s distinctive socio-political environment, land carries immense cultural and economic value. Accurate land records are essential for promoting transparency and legitimacy in property-related transactions. Considering the region’s historical context and demographic diversity, well-maintained land records are vital to preventing disputes and fostering fair dealings. These records offer essential details about ownership, encumbrances, and boundaries, protecting the rights of both property owners and prospective buyers.

  • Digitisation and maintenance of records: The portal features digitized land records that are regularly updated to reflect ownership changes, mutations, legal amendments, and policy updates. It ensures seamless access to jamabandi records, offering residents a transparent and efficient method to manage their land-related information.

  • Dispute resolution and information clarification: The digitised records can serve as legal proof for ownership, land acquisition, or location-related queries. Details such as land ownership, area, and position are available online, streamlining dispute resolution. Citizens can also request offline access to these records, with relevant forms provided on the portal for their convenience.
