How to check Vastu of your house?

Vastu Shastra is the study of directions that helps create a balance between the elements of nature. This gives us positive energy. If you are a believer of this science or wanted to know more about it while buying or renting a new house, it is recommended to do a basic Vastu survey to confirm whether all elements in the house are at the right place.  

The general practice is to extensively use the Vastu principles to check and do course corrections if you are building a house. However, with most people staying in apartments and flats, not all apartments or flats is 100% Vastu complaint. 

So, it is a good idea to check for important Vastu principles. In case they are not apt, take corrective measures. It is essential to know if any negative energy is there and the steps to correct it.

Vastu of house: Orientation

The entrance of a house should face north, east, or northeast. The lord of fortune, Kubera, is associated with the north direction. Your home will always prosper if this factor is fulfilled.

When you check for Vastu, see if the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and space—are balanced.  

Vastu of house: Ventilation

Ventilation is important for positive energy in your house. Proper ventilation means circulation of fresh air and abundance of natural light. While addressing the Vastu aspect, ventilation also helps in less energy consumption. 

Dark rooms have poor ventilation will have no way of letting the negative energy pass out. While choosing a property, check if the placement of windows and doors are in north, east, or north-east direction. Don’t place furniture in such a way that it blocks the ventilation in a house.

According to Vastu, a house should have even number of windows and doors. The area near windows and doors should always been clean and clutter-free.

The shape of a room should either be rectangular or square. If it’s rectangular, ensure that the length is not more than twice the width of the room. A room with asymmetrical, or irregular shape has Vastu dosh and should be fixed to bring positivity. Moreover, an irregular-shaped plot used for constructing a building may have Vastu dosh.

When you check for Vastu, see whether the living room is in the northeast direction. The kitchen faces the south-east direction, bedroom in the south-west, and bathroom in the south-east direction. 

Remember, the centre of a house, according to Vastu, is Brahmasthan and should be clean and clutter-free.

If you believe in Vastu, you must be knowing that the entire house receives positive energy from the Puja room. While checking Vastu of a house, ensure that the Puja room is not built next or adjacent to a toilet. A Puja room should not be built under a staircase.

In kitchens, a gas stove and a sink should be placed as far as possible because one represents fire, and the other represents water. These energies should be kept at a distance from each other.

Check whether the home décor you plan for your home is Vastu complaint. Ensure that your house has paintings inspired by nature, fresh flowers, or anything that brings a smile on your face. Any décor piece or painting destructive in nature should be removed as it brings negativity.

If you are sleeping on a double bed made up of iron, it is recommended to replace the bed with a wooden one. Iron beds tape in negative energy. As per Vastu, never hang mirrors in front or adjacent to a bed.
