How to make a photo frame?

Read this guide to learn how to make a photo frame on your own.

Are you unable to get a perfect photo frame for your living room to display your family picture? Well, a good idea is to make one. You can easily replicate what you want in a photo frame, like your style and décor elements, through this ‘Do It Yourself’ (DIY) guide about making a photo frame.

The first thing required for a photo frame is the lumber that needs to be cut. Calculate the frame to be cut corresponding to the photo size. For instance, if you have an 8×10 photo, then the photo frame needs to be larger than this to accommodate the picture. Mark and cut the lumber based on the thickness of the frame. For instance, if it’s a one-inch frame with no border, then the photo frame needs to be of the size 10×12 inch to accommodate a photo of 8×10 inch. If you need to give depth to your photo frame and need two or three layering, use a white board.

Things needed to make a photo frame

  • White wood board measuring 1 inch width x 2 inch thickness x 8 feet length.
  • Hardboard measuring 1/8 inch width x 2 inch thickness x 4 feet length.

Make the photo frame

Start with making the outer frame by setting the different pieces of hardboard together to make a bigger rectangle. Stick them with glue. This will be the outer frame. Place the glass sheet so that it fits the measurements perfectly and glue it.  You can also create a cavity on the inner sides of the hardwood where the glass sheet can be placed.

Attach hardware to the white board

As the front portion of the picture frame is ready, attach the hook and frame stopper at the back of the white board. These are for inserting and securing the picture and hanging them on the wall.

Final touch to the frame

  • Once dry, place the picture inside the frame.
  • Secure with the white board.
  • You can paint the photo frame or decorate it.
