How to update Aadhaar documents?

The government has said that Aadhaar cardholders may update their supporting document once in 10 years.

June 16, 2023: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the last date to update your Aadhaar documents for free by three months, till September 14, 2023. The government has said that Aadhaar cardholders may update their supporting document once in 10 years to ensure there is no discrepancy in data storage. Note that doing so is only optional and not mandatory. The UIDAI in October 20222 also urged Aadhaar cardholders to update their identity and address proof documents

In case your Aadhaar cared was issued 10 years ago, follow this step-wise guide to update your supporting documents with the UIDAI.

 

Steps to Aadhaar update supporting documents

 

Step 1: Go to the official UIDAI website.

 

Step 2: Select the language in which you want to proceed. In our example, we are selecting English.

Step 3: You will be redirected to a new page.

 

Step 4: Scroll down and you will see the option Update Aadhaar.

Step 5: Under the Update Aaadhaar tab, you will find the option Update Aadhaar at Enrolment/Update Center. Click on this option.

Step 6: You will again be redirected to a new page.

Step 7: This page will help you locate an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre to update your supporting document.

 

Step 8: To locate the centre, enter details like state, district, sub-district, village/city/town and Captcha code, and click Locate a Center.

Step 9: You screen will show the list of Aadhaar enrolment centres. Visit the centre nearest to your home to get your Aadhaar supporting documents update.

Additional tips

  1. Carry all the original documents with you.
  2. Also carry at least two sets of photocopies of the supporting documents that you need to submit at the centre.

  4. Voter ID
  5. Driving licence
  6. Government photo identity cards/service photo identity cards issued by PSUs
  7. NREGS job card
  8. Photo ID or certificate of identity issued by recognised educational institutions, with name and photo.
  9. Arms licence
  10. Photo bank ATM card
  11. Photo credit card
  12. Pensioner photo card
  13. Freedom fighter’s photo card
  14. Kisan passbook with photo
  15. ECHS/ CGHS photo card
  16. Address card issued by the Department of Posts, having name and photo
  17. Certificate of identity with photo issued by a gazetted officer or tehsildar on UIDAI standard certificate format for enrollment/update
  18. Disability card/ medical certificate for handicapped, issued by state or UT government or administration
  19. Bhamashah card/Jan-Aadhaar card issued by Rajasthan government
  20. Certificate from warden/ matron/ superintendent / head of institution of recognised orphanages, shelter homes, etc., on UIDAI standard certificate format for enrollment/update
  21. Certificate of identity with photo issued by an MP or an MLA or an MLC or a municipal councilor
  22. Certificate of identity containing photo, issued by the village panchayat head or the mukhiya or its equivalent authority
  23. Gazette notification for name change
  24. Marriage certificate with photograph
  25. RSBY card
  26. SSLC book having candidates’ photographs
  27. ST/ SC/ OBC certificates with photograph
  28. School leaving certificate or school transfer certificate, with name and photograph
  29. Extract of school records issued by the head of school with name and photograph
  30. Bank passbook with name and photograph
  31. Certificate of identity, containing name, date of birth and photograph, issued by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).
