January 17, 2024:  Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu might soon launch the Mukhya Mantri Vidhwa Avam Ekal Nari Awas Yojna, say media reports. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh will be provided for construction of houses to widowed and divorced women. Over 7,000 women will benefit from this scheme.

In addition to financial assistance, the scheme will also provide essential amenities like electricity, water and other facilities for the newly-constructed houses.

Also, the scheme will cover some other categories of single women such as women who have been abandoned by their husbands, women whose husbands are missing or single women who are orphans.

According to media reports, an in-principle approval to the scheme was given in a Cabinet meeting held recently. The state government is working on formulating the final modalities of the scheme.
