HSVP to demolish 1,088 EWS homes in Gurgaon’s Sector 47

These EWS homes were constructed in 2010, and have remained vacant for the past decade.

Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has decided to demolish 1,088 homes built for the economically weaker sections (EWS) in Sector 47, Gurgaon. These homes were constructed adjacent to the district centre, a large IKEA mixed use commercial project is coming up here and a metro station is also proposed to be built here. HSVP plans to monetise this prime land by auctioning it for group housing.

These EWS homes were constructed in 2010. However, they have not yet been allotted to anyone due to multiple issues related to the eligibility of beneficiaries. These houses have remained vacant for the past decade. The construction of a high-rise complex in Sector 9, Gurgaon has been proposed to accommodate the EWS homes. A 5-acre land parcel has been identified and earmarked for the construction of a group housing project, where the EWS beneficiaries will be accommodated.

Meanwhile, a senior town planner, Gurgaon, has written to the Citizen Resource Information Department of the state government to verify the documents of EWS allottees so that they can allot homes to the rightful beneficiaries. The department said that 18,000 families have applied for 6,200 flats in the EWS category.
