May 4, 2023: Minister of ports and shipping Sarbananda Sonowal visited the under-construction International Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Assam’s Jogighopa today. The minister reviewed the progress and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, hinting at completion within this year.
“As the construction of this crucial multi-modal park goes on at a swift pace, it is likely to unlock huge potential for the region along with the neighbouring countries like Bhutan and Bangladesh,” the minister said.
Being developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, it will be the first such MMLP in the country. The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is developing the park at a total cost of Rs 693.97 crore, on a stretch of 317-acre land along the Brahmaputra.
The project will cover a distance of 154 km between Jogighopa and Guwahati through a four-lane road and a three-km rail line, connecting the Jogighopa station to the MMLP. Another 3-km rail link will connect to the IWT while the existing road to the newly developed Rupsi airport will be upgraded to four lanes.
The MMLP will have facilities like warehouse, railway siding, cold storage, custom clearance house, yard facility, workshops, petrol pumps, truck parking, administrative building, boarding lodging, eating joints, and water treatment plant, etc.
