December 14, 2023: The Noida International Airport (NIA) in November signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with private airline IndiGo. With this, IndiGo becomes the inaugural or launch carrier for the airport.
The first phase of the Noida International Airport will be operational by the end of 2024, with one runway, and one terminal with the capacity to handle traffic of 12 million passengers annually. After the completion of the fourth phase, the airport will have the capacity to manage 70 million passengers per year.
“Under this arrangement, NIA and IndiGo will work together towards developing and strengthening the air connectivity within Uttar Pradesh and beyond. The partnership will also explore new and innovative ideas, aimed at gaining operational efficiency and enhanced customer experience. Partnership with IndiGo, India’s largest airline that is amongst the fastest growing airlines in the world, will offer a vast route network to the travelling public and enhance business opportunities in the region,” the company said in a statement.
Christoph Schnellmann, chief executive officer, Noida International Airport, said, “We are excited to sign this MoU with IndiGo, which has a strong base both in domestic and international markets. The partnership between NIA and IndiGo will not only help bolster air connectivity but also innovate, ensuring an exceptional customer experience for our customers alike. By leveraging IndiGo’s extensive route network and expertise, we aim to provide our passengers with unparalleled connectivity and an exceptional travel experience.”

We look forward to the inauguration of the new airport in 2024 and will continue to work with NIA management to explore innovative ways to deliver an affordable, on-time, and hassle-free travel experience across the 6E network.”
The Jewar airport will connect the greater Delhi area and Western Uttar Pradesh with other cities in India and the world. This world-class airport will be the first airport in its class in India to achieve net-zero emissions, setting a new standard for sustainable airport operations. Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) was established for the development, construction, and operation of the project. The company, a 100% subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is responsible for the implementation of the public- private partnership project in close partnership with the government of Uttar Pradesh and the government of India. The concession period for Noida International Airport commenced on October 01, 2021, and will run for 40 years. At its opening at the end of 2024, the airport will feature one runway and one terminal and handle a capacity of 12 million passengers – with the potential for further development in additional construction phases.
