Dubbed the Jurassic Park of India, the park houses India’s first and largest fossil park with a vast collection of fossils, minerals and rocks, showcasing the wonders of nature and evolution.

 

Indroda Park: History

The Indroda Nature Park in Gandhinagar, Gujarat was established in 1979 by the Gujarat Forest Department to reclaim land along the Sabarmati River. It features diverse flora and fauna, including endangered species. The park was developed by the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation to promote environmental education and biodiversity conservation.

The Indroda Nature Park includes diverse sections for visitors to explore and enjoy. It offers visitors a picnic setting with its many shaded areas.

The Dinosaur Eggs Hatchery features a collection of fossils, including skin impressions, bones, eggs and skeletons. Many of these artefacts were discovered in Rahioli, home to one of the largest egg incubators in the world.

The park also features a zoo that houses a diverse range of animals in spacious enclosures designed to mimic their natural habitats. The zoo is home to many species from antelopes to tigers. Additionally, the Indroda Nature Park is home to various exotic birds, with over 201 species spotted throughout the year. A walk-in aviary is available for bird enthusiasts, featuring 31 bird species.

The Indroda Nature Park has a dedicated reptile section featuring species such as tortoises, crocodiles and snakes. The marine section showcases dolphins and whales, along with replicas and skeletons of marine animals.

The botanical garden within the park has hundreds of species of trees, medicinal herbs and a greenhouse. Visitors can explore the vast collection of plants and learn more about their uses in medicine and other fields.

By air: The nearest airport is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad and is 20 km to the Indroda Nature Park.

By train: The nearest railway station is Gandhinagar Railway Station, which is about 7 km from the park.

By bus: Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) operates buses from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar to the Indroda Nature Park.

The best time to visit the Indroda Park is during the winter months, from November to February, when the weather is pleasant and comfortable for outdoor activities. Additionally, the park also hosts an annual dinosaur festival in December.
