March 8, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today the government has decided to reduce LPG cylinder prices by Rs 100 on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.
According to the PM, who shared the news on micro-blogging site X, this will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting women.
“Today, on Women’s Day, our government has decided to reduce LPG cylinder prices by Rs 100. This will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti,” Modi said in his tweet.
“By making cooking gas more affordable, we also aim to support the well-being of families and ensure a healthier environment. This is in line with our commitment to empowering women and ensuring ‘Ease of Living’ for them,” he added.

महिला दिवस के अवसर पर आज हमने एलपीजी सिलेंडर की कीमतों में 100 रुपये की छूट का बड़ा फैसला किया है। इससे नारी शक्ति का जीवन आसान होने के साथ ही करोड़ों परिवारों का आर्थिक बोझ भी कम होगा। यह कदम पर्यावरण संरक्षण में भी मददगार बनेगा, जिससे पूरे परिवार का स्वास्थ्य भी बेहतर रहेगा।

The announcement of the PM comes a day after the Union Cabinet on March 7 approved the continuation of targeted subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2-kg cylinder (and proportionately pro-rated for 5-kg cylinder) for up to 12 refills per year to be provided to the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during the financial year 2024-25 ((FY25). As on March 1, 2024, there are more than 10.27 crore PMUY beneficiaries.
