Inauguration

Built at an estimated cost of Rs 168 crore, the park was inaugurated on August 5, 2014. It is located at the Patrakarpuram Road on the outskirts of Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.

Architecture

Spread across 376 acres, the park is developed on the lines of Hyde Park, London. New Delhi-based School of Planning and Architecture designed the layout of the Janeshwar Misra Park in Gomti Nagar Phase-II. The park has a 25-foot tall statue of Samajwadi Party leader, Late Janeshwar Mishra, designed and sculpted by renowned sculptor, Edward Breathitt. Former UP chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav’s dream project, the park hosts a replica of the flag pole at Delhi’s Connaught Place with a 207 feet high flag post.

 

Main attractions

Besides the flora and fauna, the park boasts two large water bodies, gondola rides, a children’s play area, jogging and cycling paths, walkways and eateries.  The park also has a storytelling house and a heritage engine from Gujarat.

Earlier, the Lucknow Development Authority said it was planning to develop a 2-acre area on the Jurassic theme. There are plans to add toy train rides and laser shows as well at Asia’s biggest park.

In November 2023, the LDA also said it would develop a sports zone at the park. The sports zone, which will be constructed near gate-6, with have facilities for cricket, football, lawn tennis and badminton along with a skating rink. “The work of developing grounds and courts in the sports zone will start soon under the supervision of experts,” the LDA said in a statement on November 23. The water bodies at the park will be redeveloped while attractive lights. Umbrella and peacock fountains will be installed. On the pathway, the LDA also plans to install bollard lights and audio speakers.

Entry is free for senior citizens, the specially-abled and children below 12 years. Others must purchase a Rs 10 ticket. The gondola ride costs Rs 100 per person.
