April 1, 2024: The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) in a public disclosure on March 29, 2024 has asked owners of dilapidated and dangerous buildings to carry out structural audits before monsoon. The corporation has further mentioned that the buildings have to be repaired as per the expert advice and the completion work report should be submitted by the KMC.
As per a ToI report, Netradip Sarnobat, city engineer, KMC mentioned that there are many dangerous buildings in Kolhapur that may impact citizens residing on them and around them. Under Section 265 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949 it is the responsibility of every house owner to safeguard a building by inspecting it at regular intervals. In case any part of a building or an entire building gets affected, then citizens should immediately report the incident to the KMC fire department on 101.
