Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport has been operating since the early 1900s, originally known as Calcutta Aerodrome when founded in 1924. It served as a crucial stopover for flights from Europe and North America to Australia and Indochina. In 2000, a new International Arrival Hall was inaugurated.

Today, this Airport is the largest air traffic hub in eastern India, covering 1,641 acres of land. It’s one of two international airports in West Bengal, the other being in Siliguri. Last year, it reportedly served 18 million passengers, ranking as the sixth busiest airport in India. Additionally, new taxiways will be added to enhance takeoff procedures, along with the possibility of introducing larger boarding areas and gates as part of the expansion efforts.
