June 6, 2024: The Kolkata Metro has introduced the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) ticketing system for the convenience of commuters. This method will support a payment-based ticketing system throughout all automatic smart card recharge machines (ASCRM) at stations of the North-South corridor.
The system was implemented on the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade and Sector V-Sealdah corridors of the East-West Metro. However, the system will now be implemented across all ASCRM machines of Blue Line (Dakshineswar-New Garia).
Metro Railway officials have implemented a UPI-based ticketing system in collaboration with the State Bank of India and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) to enhance customer satisfaction and streamline the ticket purchasing process.
Earlier, this system of UPI payment was introduced in Green Line 1 and Green Line 2 metro stations. The first station to introduce UPI payment was the Sealdah metro station on the East-West line on May 7.
