In modern-day living, it may not be possible to have enough space for a dedicated puja room. According to Vastu, it is advised not to build a separate puja room in your house due to unavailability of appropriate space. This leaves most of us to go for a puja room within the living room. In this guide, we would share a few design tips to have the perfect mandir design for your living room.
Living room mandir design tips
Choose the right size: The size of the mandir must be selected based on the area available in the living room. Make sure there is enough space for the installation of a temple in the living room to carry out regular activities. As your living room is one of the busiest areas in your house, it would not be practical to compromise on its functionality to carve out a large area for the mandir.
Separate area or a temple unit?
One of the most difficult choices you will have to make while building a devotional area in your living room is the decision to have a separate unit, or a dedicated space within the living room. Carving out a puja room within a living room can be done when there is enough space to allot an area. Even if we would prefer to have a separate unit in the living room, doing so in limited space would limit the use of both the areas.
Design, look, and feel
A temple installed in a living room has the potential to make your living room assume a devotional look. Make sure the design elements of the mandir complement the living room and enhance its appeal. The reverse is also true.
Separate the puja area
Make sure the puja area is separated from the rest of the living room. You can use several design elements to do so. A different shade of paint is one way to do it.
