Lumbini Park: History 

Lumbini Park was established in 1994 on 3 hectare of land adjacent to Hussain Sagar Lake at a cost of Rs 2.35 crore. In 2006, the park was renamed after the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, T. Anjaiah.

This park is one of the principal tourism destinations within the scope of the Buddha Purnima Project Authority (BPPA), which was founded in 2000 to develop and manage specially designated development areas in Hyderabad. Over the years, the BPPA has introduced new amenities to the park, such as a laser auditorium, boating facilities, gardens, and musical fountains, to increase the number of visitors.

Lumbini park timings are from 9 AM to 9 PM every day of the week.

Two laser shows at Lumbini park are held on weekends, the timings are 7:15 PM and 8.30 PM, respectively. 

Two music fountain shows are held every day at the park, one at 6.30 PM and the second at 8.30 PM.

To reach Lumbini Park, you can use the Hyderabad Metro and get off at either Lakdi-ka-pul or Assembly metro stations, both of which are close to the park. From there, you can take a taxi or auto-rickshaw to reach the park. Additionally, the park is located opposite the Secretariat New Gate, which is well-connected by buses and taxis.

  • Birla Mandir: This Hindu temple is situated on a 280 feet (85 m) high hillock called Naubath Pahad. It took 10 years to construct and was opened in 1976 by Swami Ranganathananda of Ramakrishna Mission.
  • Golconda Fort: One of India’s oldest and most historic forts, Golconda Fort has been a symbol of Indian cultural heritage for generations. Originally known as ‘Golla Konda,’ it was later conquered by the Qutub Shahi Dynasty and further developed by Mohammad Quli Qutub Shah, who named it Golconda and added elements reflecting the Nawabi culture.
  • Salar Jung Museum: This museum houses a vast collection of art, crafts, jewellery, ceramics, carpets, manuscripts, furniture and more from various parts of the world. The collections were sourced from the property of the Salar Jung family, located in Darushifa on the southern banks of the Musi River in Hyderabad.
  • Hussain Sagar Lake: A man-made lake built during the reign of Quli Qutub Shah, Hussain Sagar Lake is named after Hussain Shahi Wali, who contributed to its design. It connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and features an iconic Buddha statue on Gibraltar Rock in the middle of the lake.
  • NTR Gardens: A popular urban park for both tourists and residents of Hyderabad, NTR Gardens offers various recreational activities for families. Spread across 55 acres, it has been developed in different stages since 1999.
