Maha government revokes rule on cluster redevelopment for MHADA buildings

Redevelopment in such buildings were stuck owing to lack of consensus which is difficult to get in cluster redevelopment

Maharashtra state government has reversed the previous government’s resolution that made cluster development compulsory for all MHADA layouts – Mumbai, Konkan, Nashik and Pune.

Orders for the joint redevelopment of single buildings, housing societies and Abhinyas has been cancelled according to the circular issued by Ravindra Khetle, under the Secretary of the State Government. This move will speed up the redevelopment process of buildings that are actually in dilapidated condition and need immediate attention.

According to Punekar news, Nitin Mane-Patil, Chief Officer, MHADA, Pune Division said, “MHADA has received ten applications for redevelopment projects under the Pune division. However, the then-state government had decided not to allow the redevelopment of single buildings. Due to this decision, nothing further happened regarding the redevelopment of these projects.”

Patil added that, redevelopment projects are still pending as many building owners are unable to agree. Also, no new proposals for redevelopment have come to MHADA after this decision. Revoking the old decision by the present government will enable redevelopment of single buildings.
