July 1, 2024: The Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar presented the interim state Budget for 2024-25 on June 28, ahead of the assembly elections in the state that is expected to be held in October.
Key highlights of the Interim Budget 2024-25 are
- Effective today, the value-added tax (VAT) on fuel in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has been reduced from24% to 21%. Because of this petrol is around 65 paise per litre cheaper and diesel is around Rs 2.60 per litre cheaper.
- Under the Har Ghar Nal initiative, tap water will be provided to 21 lakh households.
- Financial assistance of Rs 1,500 for women between 21 and 60 years.
- Maharashtra to implement the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana from July. Under this scheme, an annual budget of Rs 46,000 crore will be allocated.
- Under the Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana, a family of five will get three cooking gas cylinders free every year.
- New metro lines spread around 449 km have been sanctioned for Mumbai, Nagpur and Pune by the government. While presently, 127 km are operational, close to 37 km are expected to function within this financial year.
- The MMRDA that is executing the Worli-Sewri connector is expected to complete by 2025. Around 57% of the work is completed. It will connect the Bandra Worli Sea Link and coastal road to the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL). This will also be an important link to the Navi Mumbai International Airport.
