Shashi Tharoor is a well-known political leader in India, former under-secretary general-United Nations and an author. Presently, Tharoor is part of the Indian National Congress and has been an MP for Thiruvananthapuram since 2009.
Tharoor is famed for his exceptional command over the English language- especially for using uncommon and complex words. Shashi Tharoor’s family
Shaashi Tharoor lives in his Delhi residence with his mother. He has two younger sisters –Shobha and Smita. Tharoor was previously married to Tilottama Mukherji with whom he has twin sons-Kanishk and Ishaan. His children are both settled in the US. After his divorce with Tilottama, Tharoor married Christa Giles, a Canadian Diplomat at UN that also ended in a divorce. He married his third wife Sunanda Pushkar in his ancestral home in Kerala who died under mysterious circumstances in 2014.

Shashi Tharoor’s house in Delhi has been allotted to him by the government of India. This bungalow underwent extensive renovations in 2022 and the result was a magnificent space worth a king.
Main entrance of the Tharoor House
The main entrance of the house is a combination of wood and glass. The tiles are rustic brown and match with the décor. One cannot miss the life size ‘Nettipattam’, a traditional ornamental headgear that the elephants in Kerala wear during temple festivals and other celebrations, hung near the entrance. On the other side, Tharoor has hung a face mask of ‘Kathakali’, a classical dance –drama from Kerala. These are traditional décor elements that depict Kerala, a state that Tharoor is from.

Tharoor’s living room is made of an all included teak furniture. The place is done neatly with classy teak furniture placed with beige walls acting as the background. Their walls are all done with eclectic art that add to the look of the room. These include a signed MF Hussain Painting that was exclusively made for Tharoor hangs in the living room of Shashi Tharoor’s house, a huge frame of Lord Balaji, a frame of Ganpati and a number of photo frames. There are also artefacts such as Khannjar that are put on the living room walls adding to the grandiose look.

The office and study area
This is the study and office of Shashi Tharoor which has glass with wooden frames with his book collection. There is an Indian Flag in the room. The room is set with a huge table and chair completing the look of the office.

One side of the wall has pretty much all of Shashi Tharoor’s book covers with a few foreign editions too. The other side of the room has a lot of family photos on a wooden shelf. On this side of the room which is also near the entrance, there is a small round table in a lighter shade of brown. This is complimented by a bar cabinet behind it designed in a traditional design and carrying a darker shade of teak.
The other side of the room has a long dining table with a marble texture wood and orangish rust chairs. The curtains are basic white silverish that add to the grand look of the room. This room was largely done by Sunanda Pushkar’s Tharoor’s late wife and the politician has retained it that way.

The gym has a treadmill and a few other equipment that Tharoor uses. There is a life-size mirror on the wall, a few paintings and some artefacts that are in the gym too. According to Tharoor, Pushkar had done the décor for the gym too.

Shashi Tharoor’s puja room is compact and has the idols of a lot of gods and goddesses. Framed pictures of Vishnu and Shiva are seen in the puja room. Every day fresh flowers are offered to the deities in the Tharoor household.
