April 2, 2024: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has extended the last date for geo-tagging of properties till June 30, 2024, according to media reports. The move will provide another opportunity for property owners to register their property with the civic authority, as per an official order. This is the third extension provided by the MCD for the geo-tagging initiative.
Earlier, the authority aimed at geo-tagging 15 lakh homes in Delhi by January 31, 2024. However, the deadline was subsequently postponed to February 29 and then to March 31. The MCD has attributed this latest extension to technical glitches on its official website, which have caused difficulties for residents in self-geo-tag their properties till now.
If a taxpayer fails to geo-tag their property, they cannot avail the rebate on the lumpsum payment of tax by June 30 in the current financial year 2024-25, the notification read.

In December 2023, the MCD made geo-tagging of all kinds of properties mandatory for availing of property tax exemption.
Geotagging properties involves digitally mapping a property with the geographic information system (GIS). This helps identify a property on a map with its unique and permanent latitude and longitude coordinates.
