MCD offers 10% rebate for property tax payments before June 30

June 21, 2024: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced the extension of Saturday hours for its assessment and collection department, effective until June 30. The move aims to benefit property owners and facilitate the payment process for the current financial year 2024-25 and provide a 10% rebate on lump sum payments done before the specified deadline.

The MCD is organising camps across different locations in collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and market associations. An official statement cited in a TOI report emphasised the importance of timely tax payments and encouraged property owners and occupiers of vacant land and buildings to utilise the online portal www.mcdonline.nic.in, for their transactions.

Moreover, property owners have been urged to geo-tag their properties, a step that 30% of taxpayers have already completed.

The MCD has implemented several payment methods, including UPI, wallets, demand drafts and online payment gateways to streamline the process. Advance tentative bills have been dispatched to 8.7 lakh taxpayers who fulfilled their tax obligations last year. These taxpayers have also received SMS notifications with links to their receipts.

According to Section 114 of the DMC Act, 2003 (amended), all buildings and vacant land within MDC’s jurisdiction are required to pay property tax, which becomes due on April 1 of each financial year. For 2024-25, the tax was due on April 1, 2024.

The report added that in the previous financial year, MCD witnessed a significant decline in property tax collection, registering a total of Rs 2,137 crore collected, down from Rs 2,417 crore in FY 2022-23.
