The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has received property tax of Rs 55.37 crore under the one-time amnesty scheme introduced in October 2022, according to MCD officials. Effective October 26,2033, the Strengthening and Augmentation of Municipal Revenue for Infrastructure Development in Delhi (SAMRIDDHI) scheme ends on March 31, 2023, with no further extension.
Under the SAMRIDDHI scheme, property owners in authorised and regularised colonies will be able to settle their property tax-related liabilities by paying property tax of residential properties for the current year and the previous five years.
As per the civic body, owners of commercial properties can pay the principal amount of the last six years and obtain a waiver on the previous dues, including penalty and interest.
Around 29,954 citizens availed the scheme and have settled their property tax-related cases, of which four cases were pending in courts. Property tax of Rs 55.37 crore was received till January 11, 2023, under the scheme, as per an official statement by MCD.
The MCD said that the SAMRIDDHI scheme differs from the property tax amnesty schemes launched earlier. In earlier amnesty schemes, only interest and penalty were waived. However, after successfully applying online, in the present SAMRIDDHI scheme, all the previous property tax dues will be waived, even dues before 2004, when the rateable value system was prevalent.
If a property taxpayer has availed the benefit under any previous scheme, and there is an error in it, the individual will not be deprived of the benefit of the scheme due to the error. The scheme benefit can be availed by property taxpayers against whom action has been initiated by MCD for attachment of bank account or property, whose cheques have bounced or been dishonoured, and action initiated against them, and taxpayers who have paid up to date tax, but the receipts were not captured online to update the system, the statement said.
After updating the records, a ‘No Dues Certificate’ will be issued to the property taxpayers till year 2023, which will secure them against any future property liability.
To successfully implement the scheme, the civic body has designed a link for the same on its official portal, where taxpayers can pay property taxes or update their records.
