June 6, 2024: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced that starting July 1, 2024, it will discontinue accepting property tax payments through cheques in view of the issue of dishonoured cheques faced by the civic body.
The civic body said in a statement that starting next month, property tax will have to be paid digitally through UPI, wallets, demand drafts, pay orders or any online payment gateway. Due to legal issues arising out of dishonoured cheques, payments of property tax through this medium shall be discontinued with effect from July, the authority said.
The MCD also appealed to property owners and occupiers of vacant land and buildings to pay tax for 2024-25 and avail of a 10% rebate on lump sum payments before June 30th, 2024. For tax payment, property owners or occupiers can log onto www.mcdonline.nic.in.
The MCD has also appealed to property owners to self-tag their properties. Geotagging properties refers to digitally mapping a property with the geographic information system (GIS). Property owners in Delhi can geotag their properties through MCD’s mobile app.
According to the provisions of Section 114 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2003, all buildings and vacant land falling under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi are liable to pay property tax.
