Mumbai coastal road Phase-1 ops may start in Nov 2023

Boring for the Coastal Road’s second tunnel is in the final stage and is expected to be completed by March 2023

With 71% of the phase one of the Mumbai Coastal Road project complete, the 10.58-km stretch from Marine Drive to Worli is expected to be completed by November 2023 and the BMC has plans to open it in November, MM Swami, chief engineer BMC told the media.

The total estimated cost of the Mumbai Coastal Road project is Rs 12,721 crore. This project is expected to enhance commute between South Mumbai and the suburbs.

Boring for the coastal road’s second tunnel is in the final stage and is expected to be completed by March 2023. Close to 91% of tunnel boring work, 93% of the reclamation, 79% of retaining wall, 36% of interchanges and 32% of the bridges have been completed. Work on the Mumbai coastal road project began in October 2018.

Once phase 1 is open for the public, work on phase 2 is planned to start which will connect Bandra Sea Link to Kandivali junction.
