June 6, 2023: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is revising the fare chart of the Delhi Meerut Rapidx train to make it more competitive than existing transportation modes, according to a TimesNow report.
The decision to revise the fare structure is being taken considering the recently launched Delhi-Dehradun Vande Bharat Express, which stops near Meerut and the availability of other transportation options along the route. Meerut has connectivity options such as the expressway, AC bus service and Shatabdi Express.
To make the RAPIDX train attractive to passengers, the NCRTC plans to revise the Regional Rapid transit system (RRTS) fare chart before the train becomes operational in the third week of June 2023.
The estimated fare will range between Rs 3 to 4 per km. According to the media report, commuters may have to pay around Rs 170 to 200 for travelling between Anand Vihar and Meerut Central. The chair car fare on the Vande Bharat Express from New Delhi to Meerut is Rs 485.
The NCRTC has submitted a proposal to the ministry of housing and urban affairs outlining the fare structure for the country’s first regional rapid transit corridor. The fare structure will be fixed based on research, considering international standards and existing fares of other public transport options.
According to the NCTRC, the section towards Meerut will be opened after opening the priority section in Ghaziabad in June 2023.
