September 21, 2023: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on September 20. The partnership would help the NHAI review designs of various bridges/structures, safety aspects of its projects and capacity building of its officials. The move will help the body provide a world-class national highways network, the NHAI said in a statement.
The MoU was signed in the presence of NHAI chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav and DMRC managing director Vikas Kumar, along with other senior officials.
This initiative will strengthen NHAI’s design division that reviews planning, designing, construction and maintenance of bridges, structures, tunnels and RE walls on the national highways across the country.
Under this agreement, the DMRC will provide services to the NHAI to review designs of all bridges/ structures in ongoing projects. The agreement also includes reviewing designs of randomly selected bridges, structures, tunnels, RE walls and other specialised structures. The DMRC will also support the NHAI to review stand-alone bridges and special structures at the detailed project report (DPR) stage.
The DMRC will also help the NHAI review construction methodologies, temporary structures, lifting and launching methods, pre-stressing methods of select bridges and structures and special structures on a random basis.
In addition, the DMRC will organise customised training programmes for capacity building of the NHAI officials. This will include design, construction, supervision, maintenance and safety aspects in elevated structures and bridges.
This agreement will remain in effect for a period of two years.
