If all goes according to the plan, citizens in Noida will soon be able to register rent agreements entirely online. The move is aimed at simplifying the lease registration for a city where more than 1.5 lakh lease deeds are registered in a year. This facility will ensure the UP government earns Rs 54 crore in revenue from Noida alone.
The move will also improve its revenue generation collected by way of imposing stamp duty and registration charges on rent agreement registration in UP by plugging any scope for tax evasion.
“This step will ensure hassle-free provision of rental agreements for houses, shops in the district. For Gautam Budh Nagar, the gbnagar.nic.in portal has been developed, through which a copy of the lease deed can be availed after completing the procedure of paying the stamp duty,” a government statement said.
“We have all the necessary approvals and only the Stockholding Corporation is awaiting an approval from the state government. The older manual system will continue to work parallelly,” Noida district magistrate Suhas LY said.
Once the facility becomes operational, users will be able to visit the “e-rent agreement” window at the portal, and with their names and phone numbers to avail of the facility to register rent agreements online.

Aside from acting as a data repository for the authorities, the online rental agreement registration facility will also eliminate the need for landlords and tenants to pay brokerage fee for availing of this facility.
Recall here that unregistered rental agreements have no legal validity, and notarized rent agreements will hold no water in court, if there is a dispute between the tenant and the landlord.
