August 9, 2023: The government had modified the mobile application, launched for attendance of NREGA workers, Union minister of state for rural development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
Recall here that the government has mandated mobile-based attendance for all NREGA workers, except individual beneficiary schemes and projects, from January 1, 2023, through the National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) app. Worksite supervisors are responsible for capturing attendance along with the geo-tagged photographs of the workers through the app.
According to the statement issued by the minister on August 8, the NMMS app has been modified to capture the second photograph of the workers after four hours of uploading the attendance and first photograph.
“The morning attendance along with the first photograph and second photograph can be captured in (an) offline mode and (can be) uploaded once the device comes into a network. In case of exceptional circumstances due to which the attendance could not be uploaded, the district programme coordinator has been authorised to upload the manual attendance,” it added.
Jyoti also informed that the technical issues being faced in the NMMS app were being taken up with the National Informatics Centre on a real-time basis. “The new provisions/suggestions requested by states/UTs are being incorporated,” the minister told the Lower House.
“The ministry has also arranged hand-holding workshops at regular intervals to support states. Training has been provided by the ministry whenever required by the states/UTs to keep updated with the usage of the NMMS app,” she added.
“This increases citizen oversight of the scheme besides enabling faster processing of payments,” the minister said in her statement.
