December 5, 2023: As on November 20, 2023, more than 1.18 crore houses have been sanctioned for eligible households under the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), Parliament was informed on December 4, 2023.
Of these, 78.15 lakh units have been completed and delivered to the beneficiaries while the remaining are at various stages of construction, minister of state for housing Kaushal Kishore informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
Of the total 1.18 crore units sanctioned so far, 20.64 lakh houses have been sanctioned for slum dwellers under various verticals of the mission, the minister added.
The ministry has been implementing the PMAY-U mission under the ‘Housing for All’ programme since June 2015. This is done through providing Central assistance to states for providing all-weather pucca houses with basic civic amenities to all eligible urban beneficiaries.
To complete all the houses sanctioned under the scheme without changing the funding pattern and implementation methodology, the implementation period of the PMAY-U scheme has been extended till December 31, 2024, except the Credit-Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) vertical.
The scheme is implemented through four verticals
In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR): This vertical offers rehabilitation of slums by building houses through private participation for the eligible slum dwellers on the land under the slums.
Credit-Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS):Â This vertical provides for central subsidy on home loans of between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 12 lakh at lower rates of interest, for the construction of new homes or renovation of existing homes.
Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP):Â States build affordable housing projects with Central assistance of Rs 1,50,000, either through central agencies or in partnership with the private sector for the EWS category.
Beneficiary-led individual house construction/enhancements (BLC):Â This vertical makes provisions that people belonging to the EWS category can either construct a new house or enhance the existing house on their own with central assistance of Rs 1,50,000.
