October 20, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor at Sahibabad RapidX Station. He also flagged off the RapidX train, connecting Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, marking the launch of Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in India.
Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor
The 17-km priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor connects Sahibabad to Duhai Depot with stations at Ghaziabad, Guldhar and Duhai on the way. The foundation stone for the corridor was laid by the PM on March 8, 2019.
Being developed at a cost of more than Rs 30,000 crore, it cuts travel time between the national capital and Meerut to less than an hour of travel while passing through important industrial towns in UP, including Ghaziabad, Muradnagar and Modinagar.
The Prime Minister also travelled on board the Regional Rapid Train Namo Bharat. Underling the thinking of multi-modal connectivity, the PM said that Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad and Meerut bus stations, metro stations and railway stations were being connected by the Namo Bharat system.
