The Chhattisgarh government on April 1, 2024, released the second instalment of under its Mahtari Vandan Yojana, a women welfare scheme under which the state government provides annual subsidy of Rs 12,000 to eligible candidates.
While making this announcement on social media site X on April 3, 2024, Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai said eligible beneficiaries under the scheme will receive the monthly instalment of Rs 1,000 in the first week of every month.
Recall here that in a major boost to women empowerment in Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 10, 2024, launched the Mahatari Vandana Yojana 2024 in Chhattisgarh, and disbursed Rs 655 crore as the first instalment under the scheme. Under the Mahatari Vandana Yojana, beneficiaries will receive Rs 1,000 every month in their accounts.

Mahatari Vandan Yojana benefit
The scheme has been launched in Chhattisgarh to provide financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month to eligible married women of the state as monthly direct benefits transfer (DBT). Women who receive less than Rs 10,000 as benefits from other social welfare schemes will be paid the differential amount to match it up to Rs 10,000 a month. By that calculation, all beneficiary will receive Rs 12,000 in a year under the Mahatari Vandan Yojana 2024.
Mahatari Vandana Yojana 2024: Purpose
The scheme has been envisioned to ensure economic empowerment of women, provide them financial security, promote gender equality and strengthen the decisive role of women in the family. Around 70 lakh women will benefit from the scheme.

All married, widowed, divorcee and abandoned women are eligible to get the benefit under the Mahtari Vandan Scheme 2024 if they meet the following criteria:
- They are the permanent resident of the state of Chhattisgarh.
- They are 21 years of age as on January 1, 2024.
Who is not eligible under Mahtari Vandan Yojana 2024?
Even if they meet the above-mentioned criteria, a woman will not be able to get the benefit under the Mahtari Vandan scheme 2024 if:
- If any member of her family is a taxpayer.
- If any member of her family works as Class-1, Class-2 or Class-3 officer with any department of the Central or state government on permanent or contractual basis.
- If any member of her family has been a former Member of Parliament.
- If any member of her family is or has been a president or vice-president of any board or corporation of the Central or state government.

According to the government order, the Chhattisgarh government will enable beneficiaries to apply for the scheme on the web portal as well as a mobile app.

- To apply for the Mahtari Vandan Scheme 2024 offline, you can visit the nearest anganwadi, ward office/gram panchayat and special camps that are set to be organised by the state government from time to time.
- Submit your duly filled application form along with the original and photocopies of all the relevant documents. You must also attach the self-declaration form along with your application.
- Make sure you self-attest all the photocopies of the documents submitted.
- In case the documents lack clarity, the original copies of your documents will also be taken from you for verification purposes.
- After your application is submitted, the eligible women will be provided with an acknowledgement receipt.
