Manohar International Airport: Inauguration
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 11, 2022, inaugurated Phase -1 of the Mopa International Airport in Goa. This is the second international airport in Goa after the one at Dabolim. PM Modi had laid the foundation of the Mopa International Airport in November 2016.
Managed by GMR Goa International Airport Limited, the Union cabinet gave an ex-post facto approval for naming it after former chief minister Manohar Parrikar. The new airport will be known as the Manohar International Airport. The Rs 2,870-crore project is constructed in an area of 2,313 acre that will be developed in 4 phases.
Manohar International Airport: Flight operations
Flight operations at Manohar International Airport began January 5, 2023. Private operator IndiGo will operate 168 weekly flights that will connect eight domestic locations with the Mopa International airport. On the other hand, Go First domestic carrier will operate 42 direct flights per week from MOPA international airport to Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Manohar International Airport: Features
Phase-I of the airport will cater to around 44 lakh passengers every year that will extend to 330 lakh in future. Built on the theme of sustainable infrastructure, the airport uses renewable energy with a 5-MW solar power plant. The green passenger terminal building has 5G compatible IT infrastructure for better connectivity and has self-baggage drop for faster passenger check-in.
