The Bundelkhand Expressway, a 296-km-long, four-lane, controlled-access expressway, is all set to improve road connectivity in Uttar Pradesh. Prime minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bundelkhand Expressway project on July 16, 2022, at Katheri village in Jalaun district.
The four-lane express highway, which can be expanded to six lanes, has been developed at the cost of Rs 14,850 crore under the management of the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). The Expressway route will start from the National Highway 35 at Gonda village near Bharatkoop in Chitrakoot district and extend up to Kudrail village in Etawah district, where it connects with the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. The Bundelkhand Expressway route will cover a total of seven districts, viz., Chitrakoot, Banda, Mohaba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya and Etawah.
The Bundelkhand Expressway, which will be linked to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and Yamuna Expressway, will significantly cut down the travel time between Delhi and Chitrakoot in UP’s Bundelkhand region, from 12 hours to about 5-6 hours. The project is expected to boost connectivity while bolstering economic activities across the most backward regions in UP. It will also lead to the creation of employment opportunities for the locals.
PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Bundelkhand Expressway project on February 29, 2020. The deadline for completion of the Expressway was set as January 14, 2023. The work on the project has been completed before schedule, in just 28 months.
