February 26, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24, 2024, inaugurated multiple development projects worth Rs 34,427 crore in various vital sectors in Chhattisgarh under the initiative ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Chhattisgarh’. These projects spanned areas such as railways, roads, power, coal and solar energy.
Participating in the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra program held in Raipur via video conferencing, the Prime Minister launched nine projects totalling Rs 18,897 crore and laid the foundation stone for a mega project worth Rs 15,530 crore. Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai, along with ministers Brijmohan Agrawal and Shri Ram Vichar Netam, were also present during the event.
Among the inaugurated projects were three crucial First Mile Connectivity (FMC) initiatives by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), costing Rs 600 crore, aimed at facilitating faster and eco-friendly coal evacuation. These projects – Dipka, Baroud, and Chhal FMC – boast a combined capacity of 41 million ton per annum.
Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated NTPC’s Lara Super Thermal Power Project Stage-I (2×800 MW) and laid the foundation stone for Stage-II (2×800 MW) in Raigarh district. Stage-II will utilise the available land from Stage-I without requiring additional land, with investments of Rs 15,800 crore and Rs 15,530 crore, respectively. Further, two railway projects worth Rs 583 crore were launched, including a 50 MW solar power plant in Bhilai and the Bilaspur-Uslapur Flyover, the Indian Railways’ largest solar power plant, aimed at promoting green energy and easing traffic congestion.
Moreover, a 100-MW solar power project spanning 451 acre across nine villages in Rajnandgaon, costing Rs 907 crore, was inaugurated under the ministry of new and renewable energy. Expected to generate around 243.53 million units of energy annually, it will mitigate approximately 4.87 million ton of CO2 emissions over 25 years. Additionally, the Prime Minister dedicated the rehabilitation and upgradation of a 55.65 km section of NH-49 and a 52.40 km section of NH-130 to improve connectivity between important cities and boost economic growth in the region.
