March 4, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on March 6 inaugurate Agra Metro’s stretch from the Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar through video conferencing. The new section will enhance connectivity to historical tourist places, the Prime Minister Office (PMO) said in a statement.
Named the “priority corridor”, the Agra Metro route would run from the Taj East Gate to the Jama Masjid. Stations on this route would include Taj East Gate, Basai Metro Station, Fatehabad Road Metro Station, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Jama Masjid. While the first 3 stations will be elevated, the other 3 will run underground.
Five trains of 3 coached will run of the Agra Metro Priority Stretch between 6 AM to 10 PM every day. Each train has the capacity to handle up to 700 passengers.
The foundation of the Agra Metro Rail was laid virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 7, 2020. The project is being implemented and Undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh Rail metro Corporation (UPMRC). The estimated cost of the project is Rs 8,379 crore.
