June 27, 2024: The allocation for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) is expected to be made in the Union Budget next month, mention media reports. As per reports, over one crore houses will be constructed under PMAY-U 2.0 in urban areas.
Presently, modalities of the PMAY 2.0 are being decided. The union housing and urban affairs ministry is implementing learnings from the first phase of PMAY-U that will focus on better targeting of the scheme and ensure there is no delay in disbursement. Also, PMAY-U 2.0 is expected to have three categories — Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG), mentioned media reports.
The PMAY-U was launched by PM Modi on June 25, 2015. The Union Cabinet of Modi 3.0 government, in its first meeting held on June 10, approved government assistance for the construction of three crore houses under the PMAY.
According to a statement by the ministry, of the 1.14 crore houses that have been grounded for construction, over 84 lakh houses have already been completed and delivered to the beneficiaries. As on date, out of the committed central assistance of Rs 2 lakh crore, Rs 1.64 lakh crore has been released, the statement said.
