March 03, 2025: The Punjab government has extended the deadline for registering plots without a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) until August 31, 2025, relieving numerous property owners facing delays in the registration process.
Initially, the state permitted plot registrations without the NOC from December 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025. However, due to ongoing delays, the Department of Housing announced the extension to facilitate smoother transactions.
Housing Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian highlighted that, under the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation (Amendment) Act, 2024, the NOC requirement was temporarily removed for three months starting December 1, 2024. This amendment allows individuals who, by July 31, 2024, had entered into a power of attorney or sale agreement on stamp paper for land up to 500 square yards in unauthorized colonies to register their properties without an NOC. The initiative aims to tighten control over illegal colonies while offering relief to small plot holders.Â
Recently, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Anurag Verma cautioned Deputy Commissioners about reports of corruption and delays in processing plot registrations without NOCs, emphasizing strict adherence to the state’s directives issued in November 2024.Â
This extension is anticipated to streamline the registration process, benefiting numerous property owners in Punjab.
